Solar, Sustainability and Crowdfunding

There are various ways to combine crowdfunding and sustainability. Besides the many alternatives in The Netherlands there are other companies which focus on creating worldwide impact from the Netherlands. Improving sustainability and decreasing environmental impact is a global cause after all.

 Africa and solar

Due to the lack of infrastructure the majority of the African population has no continuous access to electricity. Villages are often far from each other and even within villages the houses and huts are spread. It’s an expensive exercise to put the necessary infrastructure in place. Previously, people had to burn kerosene, charcoal, wood or fertilizer. All of these options are bad for the environment and harmful to the people’s health. Besides that they are incredibly dangerous, as there is an increased fire hazard.

Luckily, there are lots of initiatives to provide energy access in a sustainable manner.

One of the simplest ways to do so is improving the accessibility of solar energy, worldwide. Imagine all those villages furnished with solar panels…

What you can do as crowdfunder

There is a limited number of platforms that operate globally and help to improve access to solar energy. Luckily, Lendahand is one of them.

Through Lendahand it is possible to provide a loan to a village, in Kenia for example. With the loan it is people are able to install solar panels throughout the village and provide the whole village with solar energy. At the loan’s maturity, the solar panels become the village’s property and they only need to take care of maintenance to access solar energy.

I think it's important to be able to work with people who are trying to achieve a common goal, a unit in which everyone has their role. I see the role of Lendahand in society as people make clear that financial returns and helping others go very well together.
